“Everything can be taken from a man or a woman but one thing: the last of human freedoms, to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.” – Viktor E. Frankl
“We are never without the ability to choose in life. I know that bad things happen to good people, but how we decide to respond to those events makes all the difference in the world. Put aside your opinion about whether you think it was right or wrong, a good decision or a bad one. It was a choice, and there are benefits and costs. The quality of your life – or its lack of quality – is your choice. And this is all about taking personal responsibility for what you do.” – Brian Klemmer
I really like what the quotes above have to say about life and our choices or non-choices. It sounds harsh, but it is the truth. Every day I wake up and say, “Dear Lord thank you for this day and walk with me through my day in all that I do.” I also tell myself “today is going to be a great day!” All throughout my day I have the choice to allow things to bother me, to get me down, to upset me, or I can make a choice on how those things affect me.
A personal experience where I made a choice was a day when someone told me that I was the cause of their unhappiness. Now those words were their opinion, and as we all heard yesterday, words are powerful. So what were my choices, a) mediate on those words, accept those words, live out those words OR b) tell the person that said that, “that is your opinion and I choose not to accept or believe that.” I told that person that I felt that they were blaming me for their unhappiness when in reality they choose to create their own happiness or unhappiness. This person did not know what to say or do, but what they did understand is that I was not going to accept their negative thoughts or feelings.
If you begin to think about all the choices you make in a day, we all make hundreds; what to wear, what to eat, how to act, what to say, how to respond, etc. All of our choices affect us in many ways, so we must think about what we want to create in our lives. Our choices affect the results we want in our life, they bring us forward or they can hold us back, so determine what you want. We all fall short but even when we fall short, it is about getting back up and pressing onward.
I choose to make steps towards the goals in my life, what do you choose?
Have a SUPER day!
